Peter C. Bjarkman writes for and is widely viewed as an authority on pre-revolution and post-revolution Cuban baseball history. He is author of numerous baseball volumes, including A History of Cuban Baseball, 1864-2006 (McFarland). His honors include a 2004 Sporting News-SABR Baseball Research Award and the inaugural (2008) Eduardo Valero Award (from SABR’s Latino Baseball Research Committee). Bjarkman has attended more than 300 league games in Cuba and has also witnessed the Cuban national team play in more than 150 international tournament contests staged in Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Canada, Europe and the USA since 1996. He is the first North American journalist (since the early 1960s) to be interviewed extensively about Cuban baseball on Cuban national television broadcasts. He was also featured on Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations Cuba" Travel Channel episode in 2011.
